How to Play Ludo Online with Friends: Rules and Tips

🎮 by DIJEN TECH

Ludo is the game of every family gathering: four colours, a dice and a race to bring your pawns home before anyone else. It is easy to learn in two minutes, and there is still enough strategy to make close games tense.

This guide explains the basic rules, a few tips that win more games, and how to play Ludo online with friends or against the computer on TumbleTuck.

The aim

Each player has four pawns of one colour, waiting in their corner. Players take turns rolling the dice and moving a pawn clockwise around the board, then up their own coloured path to the centre. The first player to bring all four pawns home wins.

The basic rules

A Ludo match on TumbleTuck
  • Roll a six to bring a pawn out of your corner onto your starting square.
  • Move one pawn forward by the number you rolled.
  • Rolling a six usually gives you another turn — but in most rules, three sixes in a row ends your turn.
  • Land exactly on an opponent's pawn to capture it: it goes back to its corner and must start again.
  • Starred squares are safe: a pawn standing on one cannot be captured.
  • To finish, a pawn must reach the centre by an exact roll.

House rules on TumbleTuck

Every family plays Ludo a little differently, so TumbleTuck lets you change the table's rules before the match — for example how pawns come out and what happens on a capture. Tap an option to change it, or reset to the default rules. In an online room, the rules of the player who creates the room are used, so agree on them before you send the invite.

You can play with two to four players, and fill empty seats with computer players.

Tips to win more games

  • Get at least two pawns out early. With only one pawn on the board, a single bad roll can waste your turn.
  • Do not rush one pawn home while the others sit in the corner — spread your progress.
  • Stand on safe squares when an opponent is a few steps behind you.
  • Before moving, count how far each opponent's pawn is behind yours: one to six squares is danger.
  • A capture sends an opponent back to the start. If you can capture or move safely, capturing is usually better.

Playing Ludo online

On TumbleTuck you can play Ludo against live players with Play Online, create a private room and share the invite link with your friends, or practise against the computer. Voice chat runs inside the match, and winning online takes the coins in the pot.
